First Penance, First Holy Communion & Confirmation

Preparation for the Sacraments of Penance, First Holy Communion and Confirmation at the Cathedral Parish

The Cathedral Parish does not have an in-house option for religious education for all ages of school age children.  However, we are happy to be able to offer a Sacramental Preparation Program taught by dedicated volunteer catechists right here at the Cathedral!  There will be no tuition for these classes; the only costs will be for books and materials. There will be a class offered for children in grades 1-3 for First Penance/First Communion; and one for children in grades 7-8 for Confirmation.

Your child may attend these classes if he or she is attending a Catholic School in the Archdiocese, is in a religious education program at another parish, is NOT in religious education, or is in a home-based program.  IF YOUR FAMILY IS NOT REGISTERED IN THE PARISH,  or if you have questions about classes,  please call Sister Mary Raphael at 215-561-1313, press 2 then 7, or email her at

There will be bilingual classes for Spanish-speaking children/families, and one for English-speaking children/families, at BOTH levels.  For the English program, please email or call Sister Mary Raphael and leave your phone number. If you are interested in the Spanish classes, please email Arturo Ceves at; or speak with him after the Spanish Mass at the Cathedral on Sundays at 12:30.  PARENTS ARE ALWAYS WELCOME TO ATTEND THE CLASSES IF THEY WOULD LIKE TO!

We will be organizing classes starting in July and early August – WATCH FOR further communications about this.

The Sacrament of Confirmation for school age children will be on April 16, 2023
at the 11:00 AM Solemn Mass.
Bishop Joseph Coffey will administer the Sacrament.
