Blessing of Candles & Blessing of Throats

Friday, February 2, is the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord. This feast of the Light of Christ is the day the Church blesses the candles used for the celebration of the Sacred Liturgy. The candles will be blessed at the 12:05 PM Mass in the Cathedral Chapel.

Saturday, February 3, is the Memorial of Saint Blaise, the Bishop and Martyr, who during his life assisted someone choking on a fish bone.  So, in commemoration of this healing act of Saint Blaise, and with the newly blessed candles, throats are blessed on his feast day in many parts of the world. The blessing of God and the intercession of the Saints are always occasions of healing. Throats will be blessed during the 12:05 pm in the Cathedral Chapel and at all the Sunday Masses, including the Anticipated Mass, at the Blessing of the Mass.
You are welcome to ask one of the priests or deacons to bless your throat at any time.
