Saint Katharine Drexel did not simply identify needs. She responded to them.
Her life was one of practical, courageous, and sustained service.

Inspired by our beloved patroness, we invite you to join us on Monday, February 1, 2027, for our inaugural Saint Katharine Drexel Day of Service! Groups from throughout the country – schools, parishes, businesses, community organizations, houses of formation, families and friends – are invited to take up a service project to promote the virtues that defined so much of Saint Katharine Drexel’s life.
Groups and individuals who are interested in participating in the Saint Katharine Drexel Day of Service can register online, or reach out to Mr. Jonathan Jerome, the Shrine’s Executive Director.
Once you make your interest known to us, we can help you determine the best type of service for your group in your local community!
The needs of every community are different, so we encourage you to pick a project that will meet an actual need and help shed light on the marginalized members of our society.
Some suggestions include: having a food drive for a local food pantry, collecting socks or other gently used clothes for a homeless shelter, writing letters to people in prison, collecting trash around your neighborhood, spending time at a local retirement community or home for the aging, or making meals for the homebound.
Whatever you decide to do, we encourage you to do it with great love and care for those whom you serve.
Saint Katharine Drexel was a remarkable woman of faith who understood the importance of serving communities often overlooked by society. From a young age, her example of service recognized the inherent dignity of every person she encountered. And now, 70 years after her death, that legacy of faith, justice, compassion, and generosity live on!
A national Saint Katharine Drexel Day of Service not only promotes the life of Saint Katharine Drexel, but it invites people from around the country to embody these virtues for themselves.
The mission of the Saint Katharine Drexel Day of Service is to be inspired by the life of Saint Katharine Drexel in a way that builds a better world for all people.
Monday, February 1, 2027 was chosen as the date for our inaugural National Saint Rita Day of Service because it is one month before the Solemn Feast of Saint Katharine Drexel, giving us an opportunity to begin promoting our beloved patroness with people near and far.
It is also the first day of African American History Month (or Black History Month). This annual celebration every February in the United States honors the contributions, culture, and history of Black Americans, a community that was so beloved by Mother Drexel.
Our goal for 2027 is simple: Engage as many different groups and individuals to participate in our inaugural Saint Katharine Drexel Day of Service! It doesn’t matter the type of group or its affiliation, our goal is to have as many people as possible from around the country participate in this day.
To learn more, or to express interest in participating, we invite you to register online or contact Mr. Jonathan Jerome, the Shrine’s Executive Director.
